hi, Erich: Thank you for your comment. Indeed TP might provide the way to the future, however, my piece shows that the hardest part in the past was the funding, as new technologies (in this case, old turned new) by definition come raw and decades away from commercial applications. my greatest worry is that there are usually wars marking the shift towards a truly new era. and indeed we hear distant rumblings of brewing confrontations. one needs to see the big picture and not be too absorbed with a specific technology, even if it is as promising as terra preta. would appreciate it if you could help in spreading the word, i.e., on the sites which you visit.

Terra Preta In National Geographic Magazine;
(NGM gets 50 million reads per month!)

"Where Food Begins"
By Charles Mann, love the "MEGO" factor, Lord how I Know that reaction.
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/09/soil/mann-text

I like his characterization concerning the TP pot shards;

so filled with pottery "It was as if the river's first inhabitants had
thrown a huge, rowdy frat party, smashing every plate in sight, then
buried the evidence."

A couple of researchers I was not aware of were quoted,I'll be sending
them post about our group.

I sent an email to Michael Pollan ( NYT food columnist) , Pleading for
him to get on this Biochar Bus alone with Mann's and Hansen's articles.

Cheers,
Erich

Biochar, the modern version of an ancient Amazonian agricultural practice called Terra Preta (black earth), is gaining widespread credibility as a way to address world hunger, climate change, rural poverty, deforestation, and energy shortages… SIMULTANEOUSLY!

This technology represents the most comprehensive, low cost, and productive approach to long term stewardship and sustainability.Terra Preta Soils a process for Carbon Negative Bio fuels, massive Carbon sequestration, 10X Lower Methane & N2O soil emissions, and 3X Fertility Too. Every 1 ton of Biomass yields 1/3 ton Charcoal for soil Sequestration.

Indeed, Dr. James Hansen, NASA's top Atmospheric authority, is now placing it in the center stage of pro-active solutions for the climate crisis.

I hope you will come to share my passion in getting the word out on the wonderful solutions provided by TP soils.
I'm sort of the TP list (and data base at REPP-CREST) cub reporter, most all my list postings, under shengar@aol.com, are news items, collaborative work, lobbying efforts with government, writers and journals.
